Dubai Cares to provide book donation boxes

Dubai: Dubai Cares will distribute donation boxes to more than 500 schools across the UAE to collect books for the ‘Reading Nation’ campaign.

Students will also be given stickers to write messages to their counterparts, who will be beneficiaries of the ‘Reading Nation’ campaign, which was launched by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, for the distribution of five million books to students in refugee camps and schools around the world.

This week, students will be encouraged to donate used books to support the efforts of the campaign in providing knowledge to refugees and to establish more than 2,000 school libraries around the world. In addition, the campaign will support educational programmes being implemented worldwide by UAE humanitarian organisations.

As an immediate outcome of the initiative, UAE schools will host an open week of activities to donate books in cooperation with the Ministry of Education.

In a statement issued on Monday, Hussain Ebrahim Al Hammadi, Minister of Education, said the launch of the ‘Reading Nation’ campaign is a new and massive step that adds to the UAE’s stellar record in the field of humanitarian work across the world. Al Hammadi said that the new campaign reflects the thought, wisdom and far-sighted vision of Shaikh Mohammad.

The minister pointed out that the campaign will reinforce a culture of giving among students by encouraging them to donate books to other children. Al Hammadi added that the ministry will strive to achieve the desired results of the campaign by reaching out to all students and stakeholders. A follow up team has been assigned to coordinate with all educational zones and with Dubai Cares to ensure that all requirements are met for the campaign’s success.

Tareq Al Gurg, CEO of Dubai Cares, said that the Reading Nation Campaign reiterates the strategic direction of the UAE to emerge as the top country in humanitarian service. It is also aligned with the plans and directions of the Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives to implement more than 1,400 human development programmes in over 116 countries.
