A Dubai club invites you to a house party

Zero Gravity offers you help-yourself fridges, giant board games, table football and hearty party food

House parties are a pain. You’ve got to make sure everyone’s fed, hydrated and happy with the playlist, which is probably just the same twenty songs on a loop. Then you have to play an infinite game of ‘get people to keep their voices down and/or leave your apartment at an appropriate hour’.

But what if you could always be the guest, never the host? Zero Gravity’s twice-a-week concept, House Party, has got you covered.

The club, located in Dubai Marina, Skydive Dubai Drop Zone, puts on a ‘late brunch’ every Thursday and Friday night between 8-11pm for Dh295, including help-yourself bottle fridges, giant board games, table football and hearty party food.

Peter Skudutis, Zero Gravity’s general manager, tells tabloid! all about the food, music and atmosphere you can expect — and whether or not you can really crash on his couch.

First things first: Tell us about the concept behind House Party.

House Party stems from exactly that — those laid-back and hilarious house parties we’ve all been to and have great memories of. We wanted to capture that same relaxed, right-at-home kind of feel, but with the exceptional extras — like award-winning food and awesome DJs — that only Zero Gravity can offer.

How and when did the idea first come about?

As with all great Zero Gravity ideas, this came from ongoing discussions between the team. From the beer pong tables and giant Jenga to hot dog-shaped desserts, help-yourself fridges and the all-important playlist, we all have our wish list on what makes the ultimate house party. Bring it all together, and you’re on to something.

What’s the physical set-up like?

In the summer months, House Party is inside and upstairs on Zero Gravity’s first floor and terrace. You can move from room to room, eating, drinking and playing as you go. All House Party guests also get free entry to our Thursday and Friday club nights, so you’ll be going nowhere until 3am.

The event is described as ‘retro-themed’ — how so?

The games, the food and the vibe are all about the good old days. You know, when people played Twister and not Pokemon Go.

What kind of music can people expect to hear when they walk in?

You’ll hear happy house music that gets your feet tapping, like Lost Frequencies, Duke Dumont, Sigala and Galantis — all of whom have graced the Zero Gravity decks over the past few months. Our resident DJs also jog your musical memories with a few club classics and remixes throughout the night, like the John Jacobsen remix of the Nightcrawlers’ classic Push The Feeling On, which is being played all over Ibiza this summer.

What kind of food is on offer as part of the late brunch?

Everything from pizza, popcorn and candyfloss to quinoa salad and sushi. Our kitchen team have an absolute ball coming up with quirky dishes for all the different Zero Gravity concepts, and I have an absolute ball trying them.

Who is the ideal House Party visitor?

I’d say large groups looking for an unpretentious night of fun, with no arguments over splitting the bill.

Can someone actually crash on one of the couches?

Hmmm… only if they wake up in time for closing. I’ve got a home to go to, you know.

The event was expanded to two days instead of one. Why is that?

Our Friday brunch, The Onshore Social, isn’t back in action until the weather cools, so we had to give you guys something extra. Our feedback for House Party has been really strong, so it made sense to extend it for a second weekend night.

Have you made any other changes to the event since it began?

Several. No two weeks are the same.

Finally, what makes a good house party?

Good food. Good music. Good company, and someone else to tidy up. And we’ve definitely got all that.
