Transfer unused Etisalat data to family, friends

Etisalat users in the UAE will now be able to transfer their data package to a family or friend provided the beneficiary is also using an Etisalat number.

The new service

allows users to transfer unused data, starting from a minimum of 100MB at a time and a user can transfer up to five times in a month.

Both prepaid and postpaid users will be able to either or receive data. While there is no upper limit to the data limit that can be transferred per transaction for prepaid users, postpaid users will only be able to share a maximum of 5GB per transaction.

A prepaid customer should have completed a minimum three months as an active customer in order to be eligible to transfer the data.

Which means facility will not be available to tourists with new numbers. Users of business plans will also not be able to transfer unused data.

Among the other points that needs to be noted is that the person who is transferring should maintain a minimum balance of 100MB in order to be able to transfer additional data. So a user will only be able to transfer 100MB of data if he has 200MB remaining on his account.

Every 100MB transferred will only be valid for 10 days.

Etisalat will be charging the person sharing the data Dh3 for every 100MB. So if a person is transferring 1GB of data Etisalat will be charging you Dh30.

Etisalat says in an effort to prevent accidental transfers it has introduced SMS notification facilities to alert users of the transfer.

The beneficiaries will also be able to check their balance data via USSD.

Etisalat started sending out SMS messages informing select customers about the new service on Wednesday (July 13). Etisalat says the Dh3 tariff will charged to the person transferring the unused data.
