iPhone 7 UAE impact: iPhone 6S prices begin dropping

iPhone prices have dropped by at least Dh100 in three months.


The price of an iPhone 6S online in the UAE has dropped from Dh1999 to Dh1899 since April this year.


The 16GB version of the iPhone however comes with Face Time and will be shipped in the UAE for an additional Dh17.


The iPhone 6S Plus on the other hand is today selling for Dh2,370.


Buying a new iPhone from the Apple store in the UAE will still cost you Dh2,599 for the iPhone 6S and Dh2,999 for the iPhone 6S Plus.


Online price comparisons indicate that a 16GB iPhone 6 is currently priced at Dh1,749 compared to Dh2,199 on the Apple store.


The iPhone 6 Plus on the other hand can be purchased at Dh1,849 compared to Dh2,599 at the Apple store.


Apple is expected to unveil its latest iPhone 7 series next month amidst rumours that the new device could shed the headphone jack, introduce new dual speakers and new colours which Apple is hoping could attract new users.


Meanwhile, according to latest reports, iPhone sales have been dropping globally with IDC reporting that it dropped by almost 15 per cent during the last quarter.


 


According to latest IDC figures about 343.3 million smartphones were shipped worldwide in the second quarter of 2016 compared to 342.4 million units in the same quarter last year.


Apple sold about 40.4 million iPhones and held about 11.8 per cent of the market share during the second quarter of 2016, compared to 47.5 million units and 13.9 per cent during the same period last year.


In comparison, Samsung which released the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge earlier this year saw a 5.5 per cent growth with 77 million units shipped, holding 22.4 per cent of the market share during the second quarter of 2016 compared to 73 million units and 21.3 per cent of the market share during the same period last year.


Meanwhile, another report predicts that with the launch of the new iPhone 7, Apple could witness a renewed growth during 2017 and 2018.


According to a report by CNBC quoting a UBS report, Apple could see iPhone sales jump to 222 million in 2017 and further increase numbers in 2018 achieving sales of 264 million iPhone units.


While the forthcoming iPhone 7 is expected to introduce some marginal changes in terms of design and upgraded features, including a dual camera on the back, more cutting-edge changes will be introduced in 2018.
