Dr Al Tayyeb and Welby were in the UAE to attend a forum of leaders from the Muslim Council of Elders and the Anglican Communion, held under the theme ‘Towards an understanding, integrated world’.
Shaikh Mohammad welcomed the guests, and expressed his wishes for the event’s success in enhancing tolerance, understanding and peaceful coexistence between different religions.
Shaikh Mohammad spoke with his two guests about a number of crucial issues that were discussed at the forum.
He emphasised that justice, peace and religious teachings are what people require.
Coexistence, tolerance
Shaikh Mohammad stressed that the UAE, under the leadership of President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, has established foundations and principles that bolster the UAE’s firm approach regarding coexistence and tolerance, and rejecting extremism, racism, violence and discrimination.
Shaikh Mohammad said that spreading peace of mind in communities and upholding noble humanitarian values of love, kindness and tolerance is the beginning of the path towards stability, security and development.
Shaikh Mohammad called on everyone to unite against destructive, extremist thoughts and criminal acts perpetrated by terrorist organisations that tarnish religions. He urged them to highlight the noble values and principles of justice, peace and coexistence.
Shaikh Mohammad pointed out that there are massive challenges, and therefore the responsibility falls on everyone to unify their ranks to face and overcome these challenges as well as correct misunderstandings concerning the messages of different religions.
Shaikh Mohammad reaffirmed that the UAE, thanks to the vision of its wise leadership, is always striving to strengthen the foundations for peace at any time and any place, and firmly believes that such an approach provides a suitable foundation for urban and human development.
The religious leaders expressed their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the UAE and to its wise leadership and people for the positive image that reflects the genuine values of UAE’s society. They hailed the efforts of the UAE in spreading peace and cooperation between peoples and religions.
