World’s tallest Lego building is the Burj Khalifa

Legoland Dubai has unveiled its model of the world’s tallest building ahead of its October 31 opening date

Dubai is not only home to the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa — it’s also home to the world’s tallest structure made out of Lego bricks — shaped like the Burj Khalifa.

Legoland Dubai, which opens on the outskirts of the city on October 31, on Monday unveiled its model of the Burj Khalifa. The model will be housed in Miniland, a covered, air-conditioned area of the park that includes models of famous real and fictional buildings from around the world, including the Taj Mahal. The park as a whole will have 15,000 LEGO model structures made from over 60 million Lego bricks.

Did you know?

The Burj Khalifa model was designed and built in over 5,000 hours.

It uses 439,000 LEGO bricks.

It weighs a ton.

The 17-metre model lights up with LEDs, and like the actual building, will have an LED light show, the park operator says, as well as a fountain show.

Five year-old Mohammad Bin AhmAd Jaber Al Harbi — aka the ‘best friend’ of Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai — is pictured adding the final pieces to the model.

The park — part of the upcoming theme park complex called Dubai Parks and Resorts — is aimed at families with children aged 2-12. There are over 40 interactive rides, shows and attractions in six themed lands: Lego City, Adventure, Kingdoms, Imagination, Factory And Miniland. There is also a Legoland waterpark, ticketed separately.

Day tickets start at Dh250 and annual passes from Dh765, at LEGOLAND.ae.

Other parks in the complex are Bollywood Parks, opening November 15, and Motiongate, opening December 16. A free-to-enter entertainment and nightlife area, Riverland, opens with Legoland on October 31.
